IMMEDIATE EFFECT OF PRANAVA PRANAYAMA ON MATERNAL AND FETAL CARDIO-VASCULAR PARAMETERS AT SUB-DIVISIONAL HOSPITAL, CONTAI, WEST BENGAL

Abstract
Background: The period of Pregnancy is an amazing and surprising time in a woman’s life. As the body and mind becomes a minefield of new experiences to the pregnant women, it is pushed her to unprecedented levels of stress, physical discomfort and endurance1. Pregnancy presents a unique opportunity in a woman's life course to consider her health over the long term2.
Aim: This study was done to evaluate the immediate effect of pranava pranayama on Maternal and Fetal Cardio-Vascular Parameters.
Materials & Methods: A Single session pre & post comparison was done for 10 minutes Pranava Pranayama technique in 30 healthy antenatal mothers in their third trimester those who are admitted in antenatal ward of Sub-divisional hospital, Contai, West Bengal. Maternal and Fetal cardio-vascular parameters such as Mean Heart Rate, Systolic & Diastolic Blood Pressure, Rate Pressure Product and Fetal Heart Rate were measured before and after the intervention.
Result: The study findings revealed that there was a significant changes (P < 0.05) in Maternal and Fetal cardio-vascular parameters immediately after Pranava Pranayama.
Conclusion: There were significant changes found in MHR, FHR, cardiovascular responses rate-pressure product and Fatal Heart Rate after a single session of intervention. Yogic breathing technique namely Pranava Pranayama may enhance cardiovascular hemodynamics of the maternal-fetal unit.
