Analysis of Factors Associated with Early Marriage on the Low Birth Weight Babies and Pregnancy Complication Incidence in Tulungagung, Indonesia

Abstract


BACKGROUND

Many elements, such as mass media, culture, peer roles, and promiscuity have an impact on early marriage. Early marriage is harmful to the health of mothers and their children. Unpreparedness, both physically and mentally, leads to health issues such as giving birth to babies with LBW and Pregnancy Complications.




AIM

To investigate the effects of early marriage on the occurrence of low birth weight and pregnancy complication in the Tulungagung Regency area.




METHOD

Methodanalytical survey of education cases in the Tulungagung Regency area in May 2023. The study included with 96 case samples and 192 control samples, bivariate analysis with chi squares and odds ratio.




RESULT

Exposure to mass media with early marriage (P value 0.000; OR= 0.354), Community Culture with early marriage (P value 0.000; OR= 80.826), Peers with early marriage (P value 0.000; OR= 7.591), Promiscuity with early marriage (P value 0,176; OR=2,739), Early marriage with LBW (P value 0.171; OR= 1.518), early marriage with pregnancy complication (P value 0,001; OR=2,413)




CONCLUSION

The number of early marriages in the Tulungagung district has increased, influenced by a lack of exposure to mass media, the culture that develops in society that early marriage is common, peers who have a negative impact on adolescent behaviour patterns, and promiscuity early marriage in the Tulungagung district does not significant relationship to the incidence of low birth weight babies but pregnancy complications that occur in the region are related to early marriage.
